And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. Eph. 4:32
On that last night (the night when He was betrayed), Jesus told us so much before He went back to the Father. In fact, if we only had chapters 13-17 of the Book of John to guide us in our Christian walk, they would be enough. Today, I would like to talk about the one commandment He left with us.
John 13:34 & 35, A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. Jesus repeats this command again in chapter 15:12 and 15:17. Love one another. Jesus did not tell us that love for the lost would show the world that we are His disciples. No, it would be our love to each other that would be the proof that we are His.
For the Church to work we must have love for each other. Now the big question that I am aiming for: How do we help and correct each other on our spiritual walk with love and not judgment or condemnation?
Wouldn't it be nice if we could quote one scripture verse and have our answer. Just do that one thing and we're all good. But this is not one of those simple answer questions. In order to do this right, we must walk the hard road. And we must do it together. The answer is, we must die to selfish ways, take up our cross and follow Christ, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. It is the long answer, but it is the complete answer. Only by the Holy Spirit being active in our personal lives and in the Church body can we walk the road together in love and peace. The Holy Spirit in me will be gentle and loving with the Holy Spirit in you. There is no shortcut!
Let us examine ourselves.
