The Yearning Soul

Updated: Dec 8

Isaiah 26: 9 (ESV)

“My soul yearns for You in the night; my spirit within me earnestly seeks You. For when Your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.”

Psalm 27:4 (ESV)

“One thing have I asked of the Lord, that I will seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple.”

There is such a thing as the rare soul that unlike most others finds no satisfaction in anything or anyone but God Himself. The prophet Isaiah knew this and so did King David. They wrote it down so all of us could find what they knew to be true. There truly is something known as an abundant life. That abundant life will never mean more money. Instead, a richness beyond measure for the soul that yearns to belong completely to God.

Christianity was never meant to be a religion. I don’t believe it was meant to be a pathway to paradise either. It is to be the restored relationship with the Father. Jesus Christ came to secure that bond for us. The Holy Spirit is here to help us learn and understand to love the Father with all of our heart, soul, and mind. The yearning soul has all that it needs!

It is that restored relationship that is so wonderful and powerful that it carries on for all eternity. He who created all things is able to keep the child who longs for Him with Him forever! That is real Christianity, and not the soft stuff being peddled today. A true relationship with God will never consist of a series of checkmarks to be completed as part of a plan for eternal life. I recommend that we settle for nothing less than what the Father intended for us since our beginning.

Don’t be passive. Search the scriptures! Seek and find! There is more beauty than we can possibly imagine waiting for those who will yearn for Him!

Amen?
